They used to be made of leaves, flowers or other plants, but now they are what we would refer to as a tiara . In Sweden, only virgin brides were given the opportunity to wear the crown, which was controlled by the church. It was very common for brides to wear tiaras because not wearing one indicated that you were not a virgin. In America the father giving away the bride is about the relationship not an actual trade. I think the Swedish way of entering the church is very refreshing and presents the couple as a cohesive unit with out regard to their relationships with others. I think that in a normal wedding it should be the bride’s choice. Swedish Culture and Traditions has 13,967 members.

I'm an American who lived in Sweden for five years. During my time there, I noticed several cultural differences between the US and Sweden when it comes to work culture, family dynamics, and other Swedish emigrants continued to go to the Americas to settle within other countries or colonies. The mid-19th and early 20th centuries saw a large Swedish emigration to the United States. Approximately 1.3 million Swedes settled in the U.S. during that period, and there are currently about four million Swedish-Americans, as of 2008. Plans for Sweden’s overseas territory first took shape in the 1630s, when a commercial outfit called the New Sweden Company was formed to exploit the tobacco and fur trade in North America.
